This blog is about the surrounds of the Minster. --The outside area is totally accessible and free to walk round, accept Dean"s Park which is closed during hours of darkness.=== At the West Front of the Minster ,Deans Park is to the left. It is a lovely green space in the shadow of the Minster, away from the crowds. The north side of the Minster architecture , towers, sculptures gargoyles can be seen. In the park is the old wall of the old Archbishops Palace now a War Memorial and the Minster Library. Through a little gate at the end of the park is The Deanery,a house from 1938, grade 2 listed, where the Dean of York lives, also the house of an old Precentor,1695 to 1759, and The Treasurers House--a National Trust property, 2000 years of history over a (haunted).Roman Road in the cellar, house has antique furniture in 13 period rooms. ------.Walking round the Minster East end is the Great East Window, created 1405 --1408, it is the largest stained glass window in the world, ( Size of a tennis court ) After the last restoration new protective glazing was fitted. --------Continuing round pass some of the Stonemasons yard , and the Rose Window at the South Transept and Statute of Roman Emperor Constantine , this brings you to the front of the Minster and St, Michael -le-Belfrey church where Guy Fawkes was baptised ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
